FAQ

CAN I OBSERVE A CLASS BEFORE JOINING?

Absolutely! Contact Sifu Devin to set up a time to come by and view a class. We also offer potential students a free trial class.

ARE CLASSES PHYSICALLY DEMANDING? WILL THEY BE TO HARD FOR ME?

The short answer is yes. Classes are generally physically demanding, though you get out of it what you put into it. The student with the right training spirit is the one who continually seeks to push their limits one class at a time.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

If you are just trying a class, then please wear something comfortable that you can move in.

Some general things to note:

  • Please remove ALL earrings and jewelry before stepping onto the training floor. If it can be ripped out chances are it will be.

  • avoid garments with lots of grommets, zippers, buckles, or any other metal components as it will be hazardous for you and your training partners.

  • Hair should be kept out of your face. It is important to see what you’re doing at all times.

  • Keep your nails cut short. No one wants to be gouged!

  • Please refrain from overbearing fragrances or perfumes.

DO I NEED MY OWN SPARRING GEAR?

While the occasional set of smelly loaner gear may be available, we ask that all students obtain their own sets of gear for the sake of hygiene. Contact Sifu Devin if you have questions about what type of gear is best suited for our art.

ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT I NEED?

We ask that all regular students at NW Kajukenbo Club eventually obtain their own set of rattan sticks for practicing our Kali and Arnis sets. Sticks are available for purchase, please contact Sifu Devin for a pair.

WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT SCHOOL ETIQUETTE?

We have a download available on our Resources page that covers terminology, etiquette, and lineage.

If your question remains unanswered, feel welcome to ask Sifu Devin.
